FAQ

What to expect in our Seasonal Mixed Boxes?

Our Seasonal Mixed Boxes offer a variety of Certified Organic and Biodynamic produce to the value of your box. You can expect staples almost year-round like potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic and lettuce and then topped up with the freshest variety of in season vegetables and fruit; majority of which is handpicked from our local certified farms and delivered to you within days. Doesn’t get much fresher than that.

Our Mixed Fruit and Vegetable boxes will have approximately 75% of value in vegetables and 25% value in fruit.

Size matters. Choosing your box really depends on how many people you are catering for and your weekly eating habits and portions. Its almost impossible for us to tell you what size to purchase so keeping in mind we think a $60 box will feed a couple if vegetables are not their main meal.

Can I add extra products to my box?

Absolutely! Choose your box and add any extra items from our huge range online. Can’t find something? Call us to see if we have it in stock.

Items missing from orders

Although we try our best to keep our website updated with what is in season and what we expect to receive for the week to come, organic produce is in high demand and our farmers can’t always supply the quantities we require each week.

Other items missing, like grocery items, may be due to short supply like we have recently experienced with rice and certain tinned foods due to import restrictions.

All refunds are processed on your delivery day. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Packaging

We use recyclable cardboard boxes alongside esky boxes for multiple cold and frozen goods.

As much as we try to be plastic-free, sometimes we need to put plastic inside the esky boxes if we are also putting your fresh produce in the same box. Why? We have to avoid contamination with the polystyrene.

We like to minimise our environmental impact and re-use the boxes and plastic where possible so please leave these out for pick up on your next delivery day.

Understanding Organics and the Health Benefits

We’ll try to keep this as short and simple as possible but there are literally hundreds of reasons why our bodies need organic and seasonal produce.

Think back to when our grandparents had their own veggie patches. They did not need synthetic herbicides and artificial fertilizers, and they certainly didn’t have a year-round abundance of capsicums. Everything was eaten seasonally because that is what our bodies need at that time of year.

Take a look at summer produce, the brightly coloured summer fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, capsicums, plums, nectarines, mangoes, strawberries etc. Coincidence? Red and orange fruits and veggies contain higher levels of lycopene, a natural pigment and carotenoid that has been shown to aid in the protection against some UV-induced skin irritations.

Beta-carotene, another type of carotenoid found in red and orange produce has been linked to reduced reactions to sunburn and improves the skins ability to protect against UV rays. This is just one example of how seasonal eating aids our bodies against possible disease.

Organic farming practices has a holistic approach starting with the regeneration of the soil and microbiome which provides nutrient dense and higher antioxidants to our fruits and vegetables. You can taste the difference.

Biodymanic and Organic farming supports the eco-system and our fresh water supplies with the use of rotational crops and livestock manures to sustain plant growth and improve the quality of the soil. It is more labour intensive for the farmers because they do not use chemicals to control weeds, they are digging trenches, planting seeds, hand weeding, hand picking and use cover crops to protect against insects.

We hope that by continuing to support our organic farmers, and getting the community onboard, we can encourage other farmers to produce organically which will reduce the health and environmental impacts like land and water pollution that conventional farming has had on our land.

“Cheap food is an illusion. There is no such thing as cheap food. The real cost of the food is paid somewhere. And if it isn’t paid at the cash register, it’s charged to the environment or to the public purse in the form of subsidies. And its charged to YOUR HEALTH.”

Michael Pollan.
